Share a story or reflection about the late Wilfred R. Woods
We’re getting ready to have quite a party on Sunday afternoon to honor my father, the late Wilfred R. Woods. We’ll have a brief ceremony at dad’s favorite local theater – the Numerica Performing Arts Center, starting at 3 p.m. We are honored to have Gov. Jay Inslee, former Secretary of State Sam Reed, and long-time friends Dr. Fred Deal and Jane Hensel making some remarks. Gretchen Woods will be speaking for our family.
As a special community project, we are collecting favorite stories of Wilf from the community. He had a wonderful set of habits that helped him stay connected to the community. For years, he would walk every day from the Wenatchee World offices at 14 N. Mission St. to the production facility at 9th Street to pick up his daily paper.
During his frequent visits to Pybus Public Market, he would purchase warm nuts and hand deliver them to the Community Foundation of North Central Washington office. When he interviewed people for his column, he never took notes and yet he was able to capture the words of the interviewee with amazing accuracy.
His life was dedicated to contributing to the community. We hope that you will share your recollections of Wilf with us. We will share those stories with the community so that we can all learn how we can contribute to making a better community.
